Academy appeals for street children girls team educational support

Dar es Salaam. Football stakeholders have been urged to support the Tanzania Street Children (TSC) Sports Academy girls team, which finished second in the World Cup competition held in Moscow, Russia.

The underpriviledged girls are looking foward to beginning their studies.

At a brief ceremony held in Mwanza to congratulate the players and officials for making the country proud in the tournament, TSC Sports Academy president Altaf Hirani urged help for the girls, who finished second after losing 1-0 against Brazil.

Hirani, who is also the director of oil producing firm Mansoor Industries Limited, said that TSC Sports academy had done a commendable job taking care of the street children and inspiring them to get involved in sports and today, every Tanzanian is proud for them.

Hirani said their players were seeking to pursue studies in addition to their pursuits in sporting activities.

He said TSC Sports Academy could not manage providing education to all the players. Additional support from outside is needed in order to fulfil their dreams in future life, he noted. “We have been involved in this activity for years now and someone can ask us where the players who featured in the 2010 Street Children World Cup held in South Africa are, and what they are doing. Most of them are doing their things after being empowered and some of them are still pursuing their studies.”
