Dar es Salaam. Four lucky winners were thrilled to watch the live Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals, which pitted Ivory Coast against Nigeria at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.
The winners, Marcel Leonard, Jafari Salukele, Alfred Mlita, and John Kimario, witnessed Ivory Coast winning the trophy after securing a 2-1 victory against Nigeria in the thrilling encounter.
They attended the match after winning a special promotion dubbed “Upige Mwingi Mpaka Afcon," a 90-day campaign designed to reward Airtel customers with spectacular prizes and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Airtel Tanzania partnered with Tecno for this promotion.
Speaking with The Citizen from Ivory Coast, Jafari Salukele, an entrepreneur and one of the winners, said they experienced a lot of excitement at the Afcon finals.
"Watching Afcon 2023 live in Ivory Coast was an absolute dream come true! The atmosphere, the passion, and the energy of African football is something you have to experience to truly understand. I did not expect that I would one day experience something like that. I'm incredibly grateful to Airtel Tanzania for making it possible,” said Salukele.
He said the experience was not just about watching football but also a testament to the incredible opportunities that come with being an Airtel customer.
For his part, Andrew Rugamba, director of Airtel Money Services, said that their campaign was a testament to Airtel Tanzania’s commitment to delivering value to their customers, not just through their services but by creating unforgettable moments.
“We value our customers, and we are excited to see our winners experience the magic of African football,” said Rugamba.
The promotion offered daily, weekly, and monthly prizes, including smartphones, bundles, fridges, TVs, and Bodaboda, culminating in the prize of tickets to the Afcon semi-finals.
Rugamba added that Airtel Tanzania’s partnership with Tecno had been instrumental in this journey, aiming to increase smartphone penetration in Tanzania by making affordable and quality smartphones like the Tecno Spark 20 available to customers.
“The collaboration further underscores a shared vision to break boundaries in sports and technology, encouraging Airtel customers to dream big and reach their full potential,” said Rugamba.
