The government has said it  has been impressed with the progress of the renovation of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium ahead of the official opening game of the Africa Football League (AFL) between Simba and Al Ahly on October 20.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa made the remarks during a short visit to the stadium on October 4, accompanied by Minister of Culture, Arts, and Sports Damas Ndumbaro, acting director of sports development, Ally Mayay, National Sports Council (NSC)’s secretary general, Neema Msitha, Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Wallace Karia, and the body’s secretary general, Kidao Wilfred.

The first phase of the renovation, which will be completed on October 15, includes the pitch, changing rooms, medical rooms, and VVIP section.

Majaliwa said he was satisfied with the work that has been done and is confident that the inaugural launching of the AFL will be held as scheduled.

“I have been satisfied with the work of improving the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium ahead of hosting the awaited AFL match pitting Simba and Al Ahly,” Majaliwa said. “I call Simba to prepare well and do the best in the match.”

The renovation of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is part of the Tanzanian government’s efforts to promote sports in the country and to host major international sporting events.
