Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian football giants Simba SC have acknowledged the immense challenge they face in their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup semifinal clash against South African side Stellenbosch FC.
Speaking ahead of the first-leg encounter, which is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, Simba’s Information and Communications Manager, Ahmed Ally, emphasized the magnitude of the task ahead.
“We are fully aware that this is not an easy match. Stellenbosch have shown great resilience and quality throughout the tournament, and we must be at our very best to overcome them. We call upon all Simba fans and members to unite and support the team in every possible way,” said Ahmed.
He warned against underestimating Stellenbosch FC based on their domestic league history, stressing that what truly matters is their remarkable performance in the CAF Confederation Cup.
“Some might be tempted to judge Stellenbosch based on their domestic record, but what they’ve done in this tournament speaks volumes. They eliminated the defending champions, Zamalek of Egypt, with a 1-0 aggregate scoreline. That alone tells you they are not to be taken lightly,” he added.
Stellenbosch’s road to the semifinals have been nothing short of impressive. The South African side began their campaign by demolishing Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs with an 8-0 aggregate win.
They then went on to eliminate one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s football powerhouses, AS Vita, with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.
“These are not small teams they’ve faced and beaten,” Ahmed noted. “AS Vita and Zamalek are seasoned competitors on the African stage. To eliminate them shows Stellenbosch’s strength, discipline, and determination.”
Simba, who are no strangers to continental competitions, have also shown strong form throughout the tournament and are now looking to make history by advancing to the final.
The club has urged its supporters to create a vibrant atmosphere in Zanzibar and offer unwavering moral support to the players.
“Our players know what the fans expect from them. They are prepared both mentally and physically, and they are determined to give their all on the pitch,” Ahmed affirmed.
Adding to the significance of the match, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a high-profile officiating team led by DR Congo referee Jean Jacques Ndala Ngambo. Known for his calm demeanor and experience on the international stage, Ndala’s presence is expected to ensure a fair and smooth contest.
