Chevalier set for Yanga Job as talks reach final stage

Dar es Salaam. Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) are reportedly close to sealing a deal with ASEC Mimosas head coach Julien Chevalier, as they intensify their search for a new technical bench leader ahead of the upcoming season.

Chevalier, a French tactician known for his vast experience in African football, is expected to become a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Ivorian giants, ASEC Mimosas.

According to a highly placed source within Yanga, the club’s top management has shortlisted three potential candidates for the head coach position, with Chevalier believed to be the frontrunner. “Chevalier has been closely monitored by the club for some time now.

He is one of three coaches being seriously considered, and due to his track record in continental competitions, he is currently leading the race,” the source revealed.

The other two names on the shortlist include Frenchman Romain Folz who is also has vast experiences in African football. The third candidate’s name has not been disclosed at this stage.

Chevalier’s coaching credentials include guiding ASEC Mimosas in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, where he has built a reputation for his tactical intelligence, player development, and adaptability on the African football stage.

His familiarity with the continent’s unique football environment makes him an appealing choice for Yanga, who aim to build on their recent domestic success and improve their performance in CAF competitions.

Yanga, who recently retained their NBC Premier League title, are looking to appoint a coach who can continue the club’s upward trajectory and strengthen their presence in continental football.

“Chevalier’s experience in African football, especially with a club like ASEC Mimosas, which also has a strong pedigree, is a major reason why he is being seriously considered. The club believes he has the capacity to handle pressure and guide Yanga to greater heights,” the source added.

Yanga fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement from the club.  If negotiations go as planned, Chevalier could be unveiled in the coming weeks as the new head coach tasked with steering the club through domestic and international challenges.
