Ihefu a 'bridge too far' for Yanga as unbeaten run comes to an end
Ihefu Football Club have finally ended Young Africans (Yanga)’s unbeaten run after they recorded a 2-1 victory in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League match held at Mbarali’s Highland Estate Stadium in Mbeya.
Before the result, Yanga managed were unbeaten in three matches they played in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League. This is the second time for Yanga to lose at the Highland Estate ground with the same score margin.
Last season, Yanga lost 2-1 whereby Never Tigere equalized for Ihefu FC after Yanick Bangala’s goal and later Lenny Kisu scored the winner.
The results means, Yanga are placed in the second position with nine points while Azam FC are at the top with 10 points from four matches.
Just like last term, Yanga were the first to score in the third minute through Pacome Zouzoua following good pass from Clement Mzize. Ihefu FC equalised 40th through Lenny Kisu following Tegere’s free kick.
Yanga’s head coach Miguel Gamondi said the match was very tough and managed to create several scoring chances, but they failed to utilize all.
Ihefu FC head coach, Zubeir Katwila commended his players for the victory admitting the match was tense one.
Ihefu’s victory over Yanga is a significant one, as it shows that they are capable of challenging the top teams in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League.
Yanga have been in excellent form both domestically and internationally but their unbeaten run came to an end in spectacular fashion.
