Dar es Salaam. Simba SC, Tanzania’s envoys in the CAF Confederation Cup, departed yesterday for Tunis, Tunisia, ahead of their crucial match against Club Sportif Sfaxien.

The encounter is scheduled for this Sunday at 7pm East African time.

The match will take place at the historic Stade Taïeb Mehiri, built in 1938, located in Sfax town, approximately 270 kilometres from Tunis.

The journey from Tunis to Sfax typically takes four hours by bus or about an hour by aircraft.

Simba’s contingent includes all key players, reflecting the club’s determination to secure victory and strengthen their campaign to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.

The team travelled aboard a Turkish Airlines flight, underscoring the significance of the encounter, which could determine the leadership of Group A.

Simba currently sit third in the group standings with six points from three matches, having won two and lost one.

Meanwhile, CS Sfaxien are at the bottom of the group without a point and will be eager to avenge their 2-1 defeat in the first-leg match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The other teams in Group A, CS Constantine of Algeria and Bravos do Maquis of Angola, also have six points each and are set to face off in Algiers today.

This creates a highly competitive scenario as all teams strive to secure top spots in the group.

Simba’s Media Manager, Ahmed Ally, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and morale ahead of the challenging match.

“Our players are in high spirits and ready for the encounter, which we know will be one of the toughest in the group stage,” said Ally.

He emphasised that the club has taken all necessary precautions to ensure a strong performance.

“We are fully aware of the importance of this match and are determined to deliver a solid result. The players are focused, and their commitment to achieve success is evident,” he added.

The upcoming match is expected to draw significant attention as Simba seek to assert their dominance in the group and inch closer to securing a place in the knockout phase.
