Dar es Salaam. Simba forward, Kibu Dennis, emerged as the hero in the CAF Confederation Cup match after leading his team to a 2-1 comeback victory against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia today on December 15, 2024, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The victory means Simba sit second in Group A with six points from three matches.
However, Simba’s position will depend on the results of the Bravos do Maquis and CS Constantine match played last night.
CS Constantine are at the top with six points, Bravos are third with three points, and CS Sfaxien are at the bottom with no points after three matches.
Simba conceded an early goal in the third minute, with Hazem Haj Hassen scoring for CS Sfaxien following a mistake by Simba's central defender, Che Fondoh Malone, who mishandled a pass back to his goalkeeper, Moussa Camara.
The goal lasted only four minutes, as Kibu Dennis equalized following a free kick taken by Jean Charles Ahoua.
With many football fans expecting the match to end in a 1-1 draw, Kibu scored the winning goal in the 90+9th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed cross from Yusuph Kagoma.
Kibu dived to beat CS Sfaxien goalkeeper Dahmen Aymen and secured a vital win for the Msimbazi Street giants in the competition.
However, chaos followed after the goal, as some CS Sfaxien players and officials confronted the match referees, led by Andofetra Rakotojaona from Madagascar.
Rakotojaona was assisted by Dimbiniaina Andriatianarivelo and Pierre Jean Eric Andrivoavonjy, also from Madagascar.
The players and officials claimed that the match officials added two more minutes than the seven minutes of added time.
CS Sfaxien coach Alexandre Miguel Crispim Dos Santos indicated that the match played more than seven minutes of added time.
Apart from confronting the match officials, a few CS Sfaxien supporters caused trouble, prompting some Simba fans to respond, resulting in broken chairs.
The chaos was controlled after security personnel did a good job of calming the fans and players, surrounding them in the middle of the pitch, while Simba supporters continued to celebrate their victory in the stands.
