Tabora. The Police in Tabora Region have detained Yanga SC’s Communications Manager, Ally Kamwe, over alleged offensive remarks directed at government leaders.
Tabora Regional Police Commander Richard Abwao confirmed Kamwe’s arrest on Thursday, stating that the authorities are holding him for making derogatory statements against government officials.
“Yes, we have detained Ally Kamwe and are currently conducting investigations. Further legal procedures will follow in accordance with the law,” Abwao told The Citizen’s sister paper, Mwananchi.
Kamwe’s arrest comes two days after he made remarks about Tabora Regional Commissioner Paul Chacha while rallying support ahead of Yanga’s match against Tabora United. The match, played on April 2, 2025, saw Yanga claim a 3-0 victory.
A video circulating on social media shows Kamwe in Tabora, engaging fans ahead of the match and stating, “Some people are just seeking attention… Who is this regional commissioner, Chacha, right? He will surely be in trouble after the match.”
His comments followed Chacha’s pledge to reward Tabora United with a Sh60 million bonus if they defeated Yanga. The regional commissioner had also accused some people of attempting to bribe Tabora United players.
