Dar es Salaam. As the 2024/2025 NBC Premier League season approaches its dramatic conclusion, teams across Tanzania Mainland are gearing up for the decisive final two rounds scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, and Sunday, June 22, 2025.
With only two match days remaining, the stakes are high for teams aiming to secure safety from relegation or improve their positions in the top-flight standings.
According to the latest league table, two teams—KenGold FC and Kagera Sugar—have already been relegated to the Championship division.
KenGold sit at the bottom with just 16 points from 28 matches, while Kagera Sugar are second-last with 22 points.
Their fate is sealed, and they will not feature in the NBC Premier League next season.
However, the battle remains intense for the remaining clubs, especially those placed between 10th and 14th positions.
With the league format dictating that the 13th- and 14th-placed teams must face off in a playoff match—where the winner secures top-flight survival and the loser proceeds to a do-or-die promotion/relegation clash with the Championship playoff winner—the pressure is immense.
Tanzania Prisons, currently 13th with 30 points, and Fountain Gate, 14th with 29 points, are directly within the playoff zone.
Just above them, Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC, with 31 points each, will be keen to avoid any slip-ups that could drag them into the danger zone.
Coastal Union (10th, 31 pts), KMC FC (9th, 33 pts), and Mashujaa FC (8th, 33 pts) also cannot afford complacency, especially if results in the final rounds don’t go their way.
Among the key fixtures on June 18 are Tanzania Prisons against Young Africans (Yanga), who top the table with 73 points. Yanga need victory to maintain their lead.
Other fixtures include Fountain Gate vs. Coastal Union and Pamba Jiji versus JKT Tanzania. These games could dramatically alter the relegation narrative.
Then, on June 22, decisive matchups such as Tanzania Prisons vs. Singida BS, Fountain Gate vs. Azam FC, and Pamba Jiji vs. KMC FC will finalize the standings and determine who enters the playoffs.
