Simba beat Geita Gold to close the gap at the top

Mwanza. Simba Sports Club on Sunday, December 18, beat Geita Gold 5-0 at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza to close in on defending  leaders Young Africans (Yanga) in the NBC Premier League.

Pape Ousmane Sakho grabbed a brace for this visitors, while John Bocco, Clatous Chama and Kibu Dennis each netted once as Simba coasted to an easy win.

Simba are now four points behind Yanga, who top the table with 41 points from 16 matches. Simba have also played 16 times.

Azam FC are third with 36 points, followed by Singida Big Stars, who have collected 30 points, and Mtibwa Sugar, who have 23 points. All teams have played 16 matches.

Simba’s head coach Juma Mgunda commended the players for yesterday’s performance, and promised to continue seeking the top position in the standings.

Geita Gold FC head coach Fred Felix Minziro conceded defeat, saying his players were below par in the game.

Elsewhere, visiting Dodoma Jiji FC defeated Mbeya City 2-1 at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.

Meanwhile, four teams are in danger of being relegated to the First Division league, currently known as Championship, as well as featuring in the relegation playoffs in accordance with league regulations.

The teams are Polisi Tanzania, Ruvu Shooting, Ihefu FC and Coastal Union.

Polisi Tanzania are at the bottom of the league standings with nine points from 16 matches, while Ruvu Shooting are placed 15th after garnering 11 points from 16 matches.
