Simba beat Wydad Casablanca in Dar es Salaam

Jean Baleke scores

Simba SC on Saturday beat defending Champions Wydad Casablanca by 1 -0 in CAF  Champions League quarter finals at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The solitary goal was scored in the 31st minute by Congolese striker Jean Baleke who reacted fast in Raja' penalty area to bury the shot home.

On a day when the quest for continental glory resumed, the Msimbazi side could have won by a wide margin but squandered many of the chances.

Simba registered 15 attempts on goal with three being on target compare to Wydad Casablanca's 8.

The best of the chances fell to the rejuvenated Kibu Denis and Jean Baleke.

Simba, however,  had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee after second half substitute Pape Ousamanne Sakho was brought down in the area.

The 1-0 though not substantial give the Dar lions a fighting chance for a place in the semi finals in a week's time in Casablanca.

Simba's previous quest for a birth in the semis has ended in defeat the most recent being against Kaizer Chiefs when they lost 4-0 in Johannesburg.
