Dar es Salaam. The Coastal Union leadership have criticized one of the football giants in the country, Simba SC, for announcing to recruit one of their defenders, Lameck Lawi, without securing a letter of release.
Simba, through their information officer, Ahmed Ally, announced that they had signed Lawi on a three-year deal.
However, shortly after the announcement, Coastal Union disproved the information, stating that Lawi was not for sale.
According to Simba, all procedures for the player’s recruitment were followed, including paying the signing fees for the player as well as making payments to the club.
Coastal Union chairman Steven Mguto disputed Simba's claims, stating that no letter of release had been issued to Simba for Lawi's recruitment.
"There is no truth in this matter. No agreement or a letter of release from Coastal Union has been given to Simba. Negotiations were not completed by Simba, which led Coastal Union's leadership to consider other options.
“What is happening now is just self-indulgence, and we are letting things take their own course," said Mguto.
