Dar es Salaam. Football giants, Simba, maintained their winning streak in the ongoing Mainland Tanzania Premier League following a 4-0 victory over Tabora United today at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.

Simba’s first goal was scored by Gambian striker Pa Jobe Omar in the 19th minute, utilizing well a free kick from Clatous Chama.

The goal marked Omar’s first for Simba since joining the Msimbazi Street giants from Kazakhstan’s FC Zhenis during the January transfer window.

Simba’s second goal was netted in by Sadio Kanoute in the 36th minute following a good cross from Shomari Kapombe before Che Malone scored the third following a well-placed pass from Chama.

Michael Fred, another newly signed striker of Simba, sealed the score in the 86th minute after making individual efforts before unleashing a powerful shot that left Tabora United goalkeeper John Noble hapless.

Fred, who is from Ivory Coast, replaced Jobe in the 69th minute.  The victory means Simba continue to put pressure on the second-placed Azam FC after collecting 29 points from 12 matches.

Azam FC have so far collected 31 points from 13 matches, while the league’s defending champions, Young Africans (Yanga), are at the top in the league table with 34 points from 13 matches.

In the Tabora United tie, Simba assistant head coach Suleiman Matola commended his players for their performance and promised to continue chasing the top spot.

Matola said his players played well in the encounter, bringing joy to their fans despite Tabora United putting up a strong opposition. “Basically, the match was very tough,” said Matola.

Tabora United head coach Goran Kopunovic admitted the defeat, saying his team is not at the same level with Simba, despite the mistakes that his players made during the tie.

“I missed some of the key players, but all in all, my players made mistakes and allowed Simba to score. It was a tough match for us, and we are going back to the drawing board ahead of our next games,” said Kopunovic.
