Dar es Salaam. Resurgent Simba SC are simply unstoppable as the second round of the Vodacom Premier League gathers momentum.

The Jackson Mayanja-coached outfit put Mgambo JKT to the sword with a 5-1 scoreline at the 60,000-seater National Stadium yesterday.

The victory takes Simba to within a point of league leaders Young Africans. They now sit second having racked up 39 points from 17 matches.

Azam have also 39 points, but have two games in hand and should they win them, they will be at the summit with 45 points.

Simba’s cross town rivals, Yanga, continued struggling away from home after salvaging a 2-2 draw against Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium.

The draw came barely four days after being whacked by Coastal Union in Tanga. The 2-0 weekend defeat was their first time they dropped three points in a game this season.

Mtibwa Sugar and Toto Africans shared the spoils at Jamhuri Stadium after playing out 2-2 draw while Kagera Sugar and African Sports recorded 2-1 and 1-0 victories over Majimaji FC and Mwadui FC respectively.

At the National Stadium, in-form Ugandan Hamisi Kiiza continued his goal-scoring run after netting a brace as Mwinyi Kazimoto, Ibrahim Ajibu and Daniel Lyanga also registered their names on the score sheet.

It took five minutes only for Kiiza to score his 13th goal of the season off Ajibu’s well angled pass in the Mgambo JKT area.

Ajibu provided another killer pass in the 28th minute and ageless playmaker Kazimoto slotted the ball past goalie Mudathir Khamis.

Ajibu, arguably, the best player on the pitch, scored the third in the 42nd minute, thus making the scoreboard read 3-0 in favour of the hosts.

Lyanga, who replaced Ajibu in the second half, was also a thorn in the flesh of the visitors as he put the score beyond their reach in the 77th minute.

Kiiza sealed his brace in the 82nd minute, his 14th goal of the season, before Fuluzulu Maganga scored a consolation for Mgambo with two minutes to time.

In Mbeya, Yanga opened the scoring in the 35th minute through Amissi Tambwe, but Tanzania Prisons drew parity five minutes later through Jeremiah Mgunda.

Mohammed Mkopi scored the second for Prisons, but Simon Msuva who came off bench salvaged a point for his ailing side in the 84th minute from a spot kick.

The league continues today with JKT Ruvu hosting Mbeya City and Coastal Union entertaining Ndanda FC.
