Dar es Salaam. Morogoro women’s cricket team put up a spirited fight to beat Dar es Salaam by 21 runs in the T20 Regional Championship match at the Annadil Burhan ground yesterday.
It was a sweet revenge for the Morogoro ladies, who were thumped by 73 runs by their Dar es Salaam counterparts at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) ground on Tuesday. Adolphina Jeremina was like a thorn in the flesh for Dar es Salaam as she hit eight runs not out.
Her teammate Irene Mathew hit seven runs before she was bowled out by Neema Justin.
The Morogoro side batted first and fought hard to end their inning at 50 runs from nine wickets they dropped.
Dar es Salaam had unimpressive and unsuccessful chase in their inning as poor batting by Sharifa Rashidi and Amina Said cost them dearly.
The duo scored five and four runs respectively which saw their team ending up with 29 runs from nine wickets they dropped.
Meanwhile, Tanga women’s cricket team batswoman Hudaa Mrisho has maintained her scoring spree in the tournament. She tops the scoring sheet with 62 runs. In their match against Mwanza, she steered Tanga to a 4-run win at the UDSM ground.
Fatuma Omary of Uluguru Combined sits second with 40 runs from 6 matches.
Mwanza batted first to score 39 runs and dropped five wickets in their inning. Mwanza’s Tatu Robert was in a class of her own. She scored nine runs out of 19 balls she faced.
Unfortunately, Mwanza batswomen did not give her enough support as they supplemented very little to their final score. Halima Khalfan and Mariam Juma each scored 3 and 2 runs respectively to their dismay.
Tanga ladies made a tough chase. Nasra Nassoro and Hudaa Mrisho scored nine and eight runs from 18 and 13 balls they faced, respectively.
The fall of wickets were done by Nasra Nassoro, Lemy Mkina and Mariam Mwesiga, who each took one.
Tanga top the table with eight points, six ahead of second-placed Uluguru Combined.
Dar es Salaam are third with four points while Arusha, Morogoro and Mwanza have two points each.
The championship continues today when Uluguru Stars face Morogoro at the UDSM ground, while Southern Zone face Mwanza.
