Dar es Salaam. Tanzania's top male and female golfers are ready to compete in the esteemed 2024 Africa Amateur Championship, scheduled to start tomorrow at the Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa.

The golfers are Isiaka Daudi and Ally Mcharo, who will compete in the male category, while Madina Idd and Vicky Elias will represent the nation in the ladies' category.

The talented golfers had undergone rigorous training and preparation, honing their skills to perfection in anticipation of the prestigious championship.

The championship is expected to be the most thrilling one due to the fact that it features prominent golfers from across the African continent.

Chairman of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), Gilman Kasiga, expressed confidence in the abilities of the country's representatives, citing their dedication and readiness for the competition.

Kasiga said the golfers had practice rounds at the Leopard Creek Country Club course that provided them with invaluable insights into the details of the golf course, ensuring they are well-equipped for the challenges ahead.

"The selection of the four golfers was based on both their merits and their positions in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, reflecting their outstanding talent and commitment to the sport. We hope they will make the country proud," said Kasiga.

In the men’s category, Isiaka and Mcharo competed against 140 golfers and managed to sail through the 72 shortlisted to participate in the championship.

Among the participating nations, Kenya and Morocco stand out with a significant presence, each fielding eight golfers.

Kenyan representatives include Adel Balala, Elvis Muigua Gatuhi, Mikael Kihara, John Lejirma, Dennis Maara, Sammy Mulama, Ebill Omollo, and Michael Karanga Warigia.
