Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s top female golfer, Madina Idd, has once again made history by winning the Zambia Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship for the second year in a row.
The prestigious tournament, held at the Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe, Zambia, also drew other competitive field of 87 golfers from across the African continent.
Despite the stiff opposition and being the only Tanzanian golfer in the field, Madina showcased her class and composure, emerging victorious with a total gross score of 228 and a net score of 225.
Representing Arusha Gymkhana Club, Madina played consistently throughout the three rounds, posting scores of 77, 75, and 76.
Her performance was enough to keep her ahead of her closest competitors, all of whom hailed from the host nation.
Following her win, an elated Madina said she was thrilled to defend the title she first won in last year’s edition.
She expressed her gratitude to those who came through to support her journey after she had earlier announced her intention to skip the tournament due to financial constraints.
“I am very happy to win this title for the second time,” she said. “It means a lot to me because I was the only Tanzanian competing against so many skilled Zambian players.
I thank God for this victory and extend my heartfelt thanks to all who supported me, especially when I had lost hope of participating.”
Prior to the tournament, Madina’s participation was in doubt due to a lack of support and sponsorship.
Her public plea drew attention from stakeholders who stepped in just in time to make her travel and competition possible.
That support paid off spectacularly, as Madina defended her title with poise and determination, making her country proud.
The championship featured top talent from various clubs across Zambia and other African nations.
It was a showcase of some of the finest female amateur golfers in the region.
Despite the home advantage and numerical strength of the Zambian players, Madina remained unfazed and played with precision and strategy that set her apart from the rest of the field.
Zambia’s Annie Nsama, from Nkana Golf Club, finished in second place with a gross score of 247 and a net score of 235.
Her clubmate Gracious Mwenda secured third place with a gross score of 251 and a net score of 224, followed closely by Jessica Shakemba, who posted a gross of 253 and a net of 223.
Bibian Ngosa rounded out the top five with a gross of 257 and a net of 230, all representing Nkana Golf Club.
Madina’s triumph not only cements her status as one of Tanzania’s leading sportswomen but also brings attention to the growing strength of East African golfers on the continental stage.
Her success is expected to inspire young girls and upcoming golfers in Tanzania to pursue the sport with determination, while also highlighting the need for consistent support for athletes representing the country internationally.
As she returns to Arusha with her second consecutive Zambian title, Madina Idd stands as a symbol of perseverance, talent, and national pride.
Her victory is more than just a personal achievement—it is a win for Tanzanian golf and for women in sports across the region.
