Dar es Salaam. Three talented Tanzanian golfers are set to start their search for glory today at the All Africa Challenge Trophy, taking place on the prestigious Tazegzout Golf Course in Agadir, Morocco.

The team comprises seasoned golfers including Madina Iddi and Neema Olomi, both from Arusha Gymkhana Club, alongside Hawa Wanyeche from Lugalo Golf Club.

The golfers earned their spots in the national team through consistent performances in local and regional tournaments, showcasing their skills and determination.

The All Africa Challenge Trophy is a premier event that brings together top female golfers from across the continent, making it a highly competitive platform.

The Tanzanian trio, representing the nation, are prepared to leave their mark in the championship. Speaking with The Citizen from Agadir, Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) Secretary General Yasmin Chali expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.

“All three golfers have significant experience in this competition and had trained intensively on the tournament course. They are in top form and fully prepared to meet the expectations of Tanzanians,” Yasmin said.

Yasmin also highlighted the importance of support and encouragement from the nation.“Their morale is very high, and we need moral support ahead of this prestigious event,” she added.

Team member and renowned golfer Madina Iddi emphasised the team’s determination to perform well despite the strong competition they are likely to face.

She acknowledged the high calibre of African golfers featuring in the event, but remained optimistic about Tanzania’s chances.

“Our goal is to achieve the best possible result in the tournament. We are grateful for the support we have received, especially from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose encouragement has inspired us to do our best,” Madina said.

Reflecting on past performances, she noted the team’s third-place finish in the previous edition held on Tanzania’s Gymkhana Golf Course. “This time, we are aiming for the top position,” she affirmed.

In the last edition, the Tanzanian team, then comprising Hawa Wanyeche, Madina Iddi, and Angel Eaton (now a professional), secured a total score of 455, demonstrating their capability on the continental stage.

As the championship tees off, hopes are high for the team to achieve a historic victory and bring pride to the nation.
