Dar es Salaam. Mainland Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga) today meet Mtibwa Sugar at the Azam Complex in the city after a tough assignment in the CAF Champions League.
The match has been scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm and the two teams need victory in order to improve their chances in the league standings.
Yanga are second with 24 points from nine matches while Mtibwa Sugar are at the bottom of the league table with five points from 12 matches.
Victory for Yanga will make them reduce the gap to one point against the league leaders, Azam FC, who have so far collected 28 points from 12 matches.
If Mtibwa Sugar win, they will remain at the bottom with eight points.
The two teams’ statuses in the league standings make today’s encounter a tough one as Yanga head coach Miguel Gamondi said all his players are in top form ready for the encounter, expressing that they are not underestimating their rivals considered one of the toughest contenders.
“My players are in high morale and focus on registering a positive result. We trained well and the good news is that Lomalisa Mutambala is back in the team after picking up an injury in the CAF Champions League match against Al Ahly,” said Gamondi.
Mtibwa Sugar head coach Zubeiry Katwila said they target victory in the encounter, although they are facing a tough challenge.
Katwila explained that Yanga are one of the top teams in the league with good players, but said they have prepared to shock them as the three points are very important to them.
“We need to play with determination against Yanga in our game. My players are in high morale ahead of the match. Our target is to win the tie,” insisted Katwila.
