What you need to know:

  • Yanga, who are the league and Azam Federation Cup champions, are currently in the second week of pre-season training.

Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga)’s Argentinian tactician, Miguel Gamondi, has been impressed with the standards shown by the team’s players ahead of the next Mainland Tanzania Premier League season.

Yanga, who are the league and Azam Federation Cup champions, are currently in the second week of pre-season training.

Apart from preparing for the two competitions, they are also the envoys of the country in the CAF Champions League.

The team have so far recruited seven new players ahead of the next season. The players are Maxi Nzengeli Mpia from the DR Congo’s AS Maniema Union, Mahatse Makudubela alias Skudu (Marumo Gallants, South Africa), and Jonas Mkude, former Simba Sports Club holding midfielder.

Also, on the list are Yao Attohoula and Pacome Zouzoua, both from Asec Mimosas, Gift Fred (Sports Club Villa) and Nickson Kibabage from Singida Fountain Gate.

The players join teammates who did well last season and helped the club to finish second in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Gamondi said his players are responding well to the team’s training and he is hopeful that they will catch up with his instructions before the kick-off of the international competition.

"Most of the players are of good standard and respond well to training. We still have time, and I believe we will do our best in the forthcoming league season as well as in the CAF Champions League," he said.

The Mainland Tanzania Premier League is scheduled to kick-start on August 15, involving 16 teams.
