Yanga ready for title party as they take on Mtibwa Sugar

Dar es Salaam. Football giants, Young Africans (Yanga) may win Mainland Tanzania title today, May 13, 2024 at Manungu Complex in Turiani, Morogoro if they beat Mtibwa Sugar in as the league continue in four stadia.

Apart from Mtibwa Sugar-Yanga encounter scheduled to start from 4pm, earlier at 2pm, Tanzania Prisons will host Ihefu FC at the Sokoine Stadium while JKT Tanzania will meet Singida Fountain Gate FC at the Major Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Also on the list are Dodoma Jiji FC against Namungo FC at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma region from 7pm. The matches are important for the four teams aiming to improve their positions in the league standing.

However, all eyes will be at the Manungu Complex where Yanga need a victory to win the title for the third time in a row.

 Yanga are at the top of the league standing after collecting 68 points from 26 matches and the victory will take their points to 71 that cannot be reached by second placed team, Azam FC and third placed Simba who can collect the maximum of 69 points if they will win all their remaining matches.

Yanga’s head coach Miguel Gamondi said he is taking the match seriously and all players were in top morale.

Gamondi said they are expecting tough match as Mtibwa Sugar who are at the bottom of the league standing also need victory in order to avoid the relegation zone. Mtibwa Sugar have so far collected 20 points from 26 matches and can collect up to 32 points if they win all remaining matches.

“It is not easy as we are facing a team that is struggling to avoid relegation. We have prepared well and our main target is to win the match,” said Gamondi.

“I am proud of my players who are very committed and know what Yanga fans and members need from them,” he said.

For his part, Mtibwa Sugar head coach Zubeiry Katwila said all players fine and ready to fight for the team in order to avoid relegation.

“We still have a chance to remain in the topflight league and we need to win. We will be facing a tough team, but our main target is to win,” said Katwila.
