Dar es Salaam. A goal by defender Ibrahim “Bacca” Hamad was enough for the Mainland Premier League champions, Young Africans (Yanga), to secure a 1-0 victory against the newly promoted side, KenGold FC.

Bacca scored in the 13th minute, making the most of a well-taken free kick by Stephane Aziz Ki at the Sokoine Stadium on September 25, 2024.

The victory allowed Yanga to collect six points from two matches, moving them up to the seventh position in the league standings.

Meanwhile, KenGold FC remains at the bottom of the league table, having failed to secure a single point after five matches.

Yanga’s head coach, Miguel Gamondi, praised his players for their effort despite the narrow win.

"We have collected three points, and it’s important to secure maximum points in any league match, as our goal is to defend the title," said Gamondi.

He also cited that the pitch conditions were not ideal for their style of play, although they dominated the encounter and missed several scoring opportunities.

Yanga's next match is scheduled against Kinondoni Municipal Council (KMC) at the Azam Complex, kicking off at 9 pm on Sunday.

KenGold's head coach, Jumanne Challe, acknowledged that mistakes led to Yanga's lone goal.

"My players performed well but missed several scoring opportunities. I am still in the process of building the team, and I believe we will achieve victories in upcoming matches," said Challe.

He added that they managed to counter Yanga’s strategies but were punished for their mistakes.

In another league encounter, JKT Tanzania recorded a 2-1 win against Coastal Union at the Major Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam. JKT Tanzania's goals came from Hassan Dilunga and Shiza Kichuya, while Coastal Union's solitary goal was scored by John Makwata.
