Dar es Salaam. Newly signed attacking midfielder Jonathan Ikangalombo Kapela is expected to make his debut for defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) as they face Pamba Jiji FC today at CCM Kirumba Stadium in the ongoing Tanzania Mainland Premier League at 4pm.
Since joining Yanga during the mid-season transfer window, Ikangalombo has yet to feature for the team, with the club citing various technical reasons for his absence.
The DR Congo international, who joined Yanga from AS Vita, is known for his speed and attacking ability. According to a club official, he is now fully fit and ready to contribute.
"He is fit for this match and those to come. Earlier, he was unavailable due to unavoidable reasons. He has now trained with the squad, and today's match against Pamba Jiji FC will mark his debut for the team," the official said.
Yanga’s head coach Miloud Hamdi said they are taking every match seriously, regardless of their opponents' league position.
"We are treating this match with full focus because Pamba Jiji FC are a strong team with impressive results. Every team plays to win, and we are determined to maintain our momentum," said Hamdi.
He added that his players are in high spirits and eager to continue their winning streak to maintain their position at the top of the league standings.
Yanga currently lead the league with 55 points from 21 matches and aim to extend their advantage over second-placed Simba SC, who have 51 points from 20 matches. A win today will push Yanga to 58 points, creating a seven-point gap over their traditional rivals.
On the other hand, Pamba Jiji FC head coach Fred Felix Minziro said his squad is motivated and prepared for the challenge, despite facing a tough opponent.
"We are up against a very strong team, but we have trained hard. After our last match, the pressure has eased, and we are heading into this game with determination. I trust my players to perform well," said Minziro.
A victory for Pamba Jiji FC, who currently sit 12th with 22 points from 21 matches, would see them climb to ninth place with 25 points.
In addition to this match, another fixture scheduled for today will see Tabora United hosting Dodoma Jiji FC at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora from 2pm.
