Dar es Salaam. The stage is set for one of the most thrilling matches of the season as traditional rivals Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC clash in the eagerly awaited derby this Saturday.

While the match will be a key battle in the Mainland Tanzania Premier League title race, it will also serve as a crucial showdown for seven players vying for the Golden Boot award.

Title race fight

Yanga currently leads the league standings with 58 points from 22 matches, while Simba is close behind with 54 points from 21 games. The outcome of this highly anticipated derby could have a significant impact on the title race.

If Yanga wins, they will extend their tally to 61 points, creating a seven-point gap over Simba, who still has a game in hand.

On the other hand, a Simba victory will narrow the gap to just one point, as they will move to 57 points, keeping the race wide open. A draw, however, will see Yanga maintain their four-point lead, reaching 59 points, while Simba will move to 55 points.

Golden boot battle heats up

While the focus will largely be on the title race, another fierce battle will take place on the field of the race for the Golden Boot award. Seven players from both teams are in contention, making the derby even more exciting.

Leading the goal-scoring charts in this fixture are Clement Mzize and Prince Dube of Yanga, who will go head-to-head against Jean Ahoua of Simba.

All three players have netted 10 goals each, making them joint top scorers in this season’s league campaign so far.

Beyond the trio, the derby will also feature an interesting fight among four other players who are closely chasing the top scorers.

Simba’s Leonel Ateba and Steven Mukwala, both with eight goals, will be eager to close the gap and boost their chances in the golden boot race.

On Yanga’s side, Pacome Zouzoua and Stephane Aziz Ki have each found the back of the net seven times, and they, too, will be looking to add to their tally.

A standout performance from any of these players could shake up the race for the top scorer award and determine who takes the lead.
