Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions, Young Africans (Yanga SC), are in the final stages of negotiations with Egyptian football giants Zamalek SC for the transfer of their prolific striker, Clement Mzize.
Mzize has been one of the standout performers in the ongoing season, having scored 13 goals and registered three assists.
He is currently just two goals behind the league’s top scorer, Jean Ahoua of Simba SC, who has netted 15 goals.
Mzize’s consistent goal-scoring form has attracted serious interest from several clubs, with Zamalek emerging as the frontrunners to secure his signature.
Mzize’s age and potential for further development, combined with his impressive form this season, have made him a highly sought-after prospect.
In addition to his club performances, Mzize is also a key member of the Tanzanian national team, Taifa Stars his role at the international level has further increased his value in the transfer market, and Yanga are keen to leverage his overall profile to command a significant transfer fee.
An inside source at Yanga, who spoke to The Citizen on condition of anonymity, revealed that the club has already reached an agreement with Zamalek regarding the transfer terms.
However, the deal has not yet been finalized as Zamalek has yet to make the agreed payment.
“We had discussions with Zamalek and presented our offer. They have accepted it in principle, but the deal is not yet complete because they haven’t made the payment,” the source said.
“We are currently waiting for them to show full commitment by fulfilling their financial obligations.”
Initially, three clubs expressed interest in signing Mzize, including Zamalek, a South African club, and another North African side.
However, one of the clubs reportedly dropped out after successfully signing Ivorian midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki from Yanga earlier in the season.
The same source confirmed that Mzize’s transfer could be concluded as soon as the league season ends.
"Mzize is essentially counting down the days to his departure. If all goes according to plan, he will leave after the end of the season,” the source added.
While Yanga have not officially disclosed the transfer fee involved, The Citizen has learned that the club is set to earn approximately $1 million (about Sh2 billion) from the deal—making it one of the most lucrative player sales in recent Tanzanian football history.
