Unguja. Chairpersons from 11 ACT-Wazalendo regions in Zanzibar have declared support for resolutions issued by the party’s Central Committee regarding the report of the Judge Chande Commission, which investigated the October 29, 2025 killings.
Speaking on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Mkoa Chairman, Mr Haji Dude Haji, told journalists that on behalf of the 11 regional chairpersons in Zanzibar, the statement had been issued collectively.
The chairpersons are Haji Dude Haji, Raisa Abdallah Mussa, Rashid Khalid Salim, Juma Khamis Alli, Yussuf Salum Khamis, Moh'd Abdalla Bakar, Issa Idrissa Mwinyi, Silima Juma Abdalla, Mcha Rajab Haji, Vuai Abdul Qadir and Abdillahi Jihad Hassan.
Mr Dude said they supported and commended the party’s Central Committee for rejecting the commission and refusing to recognise its report, arguing that it had been established to shield those responsible for the killings rather than ensure accountability.
“We support the Central Committee’s call for urgent measures, including an independent international investigation into the October 2025 killings, the release of people facing charges, including Chadema national chairman Mr Tundu Lissu, and accountability for ministries, departments and offices linked to the killings,” he said.
The regional chairpersons also endorsed the Central Committee’s resolutions calling for the launch of a new constitution process, reforms within the Police Force and repeal of what they described as oppressive laws, including the Investigation Act, the Political Parties Act and 40 other restrictive laws cited in the report of the Nyalali Commission.
In addition, the leaders appealed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan to make the full Judge Chande Commission report public, arguing that doing so would help citizens better understand the commission’s investigative methods and findings.
“Although the commission belongs to the President, as President Hassan herself stated, the matter it was assigned to investigate concerns wider national interests. Tanzanians have the right to know what the Judge Chande Commission submitted,” said Mr Dude on behalf of the group.
The chairpersons also sent solidarity messages to former Prime Minister Joseph Warioba for being among the retired leaders who, they said, had upheld the truth regarding the Judge Chande Commission report.
They further condemned what they described as attempts by State institutions to intimidate or pressure him into abandoning the truth, insisting that the truth cannot be suppressed.
The leaders also commended institutions that had remained firm in speaking openly about the October 2025 killings and urged democracy and human rights stakeholders to maintain solidarity.
ACT-Wazalendo’s Central Committee held an emergency meeting on May 3, 2026, to discuss the country’s political situation and issue the party’s official position on the Judge Chande Commission report.
