Unguja. Zanzibar presidential candidate for Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has asserted that all pledges made in 2020 have been fulfilled, saying they are seeking a fresh mandate to deliver even greater results.

He urged young people to prepare themselves to secure permanent jobs and tackle unemployment, stressing that economic empowerment will be a cornerstone of his second term if re‑elected.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Nyarugusu Pangawe Grounds, as part of his re‑election campaign, Dr Mwinyi underscored that his administration had delivered on its promises and now sought public endorsement to build on these achievements.

“My fellow citizens, the promises we made in 2020 have been fulfilled. That is why we have come again to seek votes, so we can do even greater things,” he told entrepreneurs and residents.

Achievements and commitments

Dr Mwinyi highlighted major projects delivered during his first term, including modern hospitals, multi‑storey schools, improved road infrastructure, and upgraded sports facilities.

He acknowledged that challenges remain in health, education, and roads, but assured the public that plans are already underway to address them.

These include building more multi‑storey schools and improving road networks across the islands.

“Recently, we signed a contract to build 29 multi‑storey schools. We will consider building one here, and a health centre at Kwarara is also under construction,” he said.

Youth employment and economic empowerment

On employment, Dr Mwinyi said the next phase of his leadership would prioritise job creation for young people, both in government and the private sector, while also empowering them to create their own employment opportunities.

“Young people, let us prepare ourselves to secure permanent jobs. Our plans are ready and already in motion. That is why we are asking to be returned to power so we can implement those plans,” he said.

He emphasised that youth empowerment was central to sustaining Zanzibar’s development, adding that skills training and enterprise support would be expanded under a renewed mandate.

Appeal for voter turnout

Dr Mwinyi called on citizens to turn out in large numbers on Election Day to support him and CCM, stressing that voter participation was critical to ensuring a decisive victory and countering opponents’ claims of electoral malpractice.

“Enthusiasm alone is not enough to win an election. We must turn out in large numbers on October 29, 2025, to choose our party, so we can win decisively and deny opponents any excuse of rigging,” he said.

CCM endorsement

Earlier, CCM Zanzibar Deputy Secretary‑General, Dr Mohamed Said Dimwa, endorsed Dr Mwinyi, urging voters not to make the wrong choice.

“If you choose Dr Mwinyi, you choose development. So, when the day comes, let us not make a mistake, let us choose him to achieve development,” he said.

Dr Dimwa reiterated the party’s confidence in Dr Mwinyi’s leadership, describing him as a leader with a proven track record of delivering projects and ensuring stability.

Looking ahead

Dr Mwinyi’s campaign message centres on continuity and expansion, building on the foundations laid during his first term and delivering more transformative projects in education, health, infrastructure, and employment.

He has positioned youth employment as a strategic priority and framed his re‑election bid as an opportunity for Zanzibar to consolidate progress and move towards a prosperous future.

With just weeks remaining before the election, the CCM campaign in Zanzibar is intensifying, with Dr Mwinyi continuing to tour constituencies and present his vision for the islands.

On October 29, 2025, the people of Zanzibar will decide whether to renew his mandate or choose a different path for the next five years.
