Zanzibar. Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate for Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, is scheduled to collect his nomination forms on Saturday, August 30, as preparations for the 2025 General Election gain momentum.

Announcing the development at the party’s headquarters in Kisiwandui yesterday, CCM Secretary of the Special NEC Committee for Ideology, Publicity and Training in Zanzibar, Khamis Mbeto, said Dr. Mwinyi will report to the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) offices at 10:00 a.m.

Dr. Mwinyi, who is completing his first term as President of Zanzibar, is expected to address the public later in the day at Mao Grounds, where he will outline his vision for a second term. The rally will culminate in a major concert featuring popular musicians from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

According to ZEC Chairman Justice George Joseph Kazi, the collection of nomination forms for councillors, representatives and presidential aspirants opened on August 28 and will close on September 10. The nomination exercise is slated for September 11, after which campaigns will officially kick off.

Mbeto explained that Dr. Mwinyi will depart from Mazizini and proceed to ZEC accompanied by the Deputy Secretary General, members of the Secretariat and retired party leaders, with the entourage capped at 20 people in line with regulations.

After completing the nomination process, he will ride in an open vehicle through Kwalaju, Magereza, Miembeni and Mapinduzi Square before heading to the party headquarters at Kisiwandui.

“At Kisiwandui, he will pay respects at the grave of the late Abeid Amani Karume, meet with party elders, and then proceed to Mao Grounds to address citizens,” said Mbeto.

Following the speech, CCM has organized a grand cultural event to launch campaign songs composed by celebrated artists, which will be used throughout the election season. Performers will include some of the country’s most popular stars from both Zanzibar and the Mainland.
