Dar es Salaam. M-Pesa has reinforced its position as Tanzania’s leading mobile financial service, driving economic inclusion and transforming livelihoods, the company said as it marks 25 years of service in the country.

Figures from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for the quarter ending June 2025 show that M-Pesa holds 40.4 percent of all mobile money accounts in the country, maintaining its dominance since its launch in 2008.

In its second-quarter report for the period ending June 2025, Vodacom said M-Pesa revenue rose by 20.3 percent to Sh167.3 billion, contributing 40.7 percent of total service revenue.

According to Vodacom Tanzania Plc’s annual and quarterly performance reports, the growth was driven by new products and services in the M-Pesa portfolio, including microcredit, savings, insurance, merchant payments, and smartphone financing.

Vodacom Tanzania’s director of M-Pesa, Mr Epimack Mbeteni, said the platform’s role had expanded well beyond its original purpose. “We are proud to see how Tanzanians are embracing our services to manage their finances more efficiently and achieve their economic aspirations,” he said.
