  • The official opening of the residential buildings and shopping malls is scheduled for December this year.

Dar es Salaam. Construction of the Morocco Square project is complete by 98 percent, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) said yesterday.

NHC, which develops the project, revealed that official opening of the residential buildings and shopping malls is scheduled for December, this year.

The corporation said at the moment, tenants in business areas have already started occupying spaces and filling products.

“We expect that by November, this year, the products will be arranged on the shelves to allow customers to buy, said NHC director general Mr Hamad Abdallah.

He said an investor on the hotel side of the building continues to import equipment.

Mr Abdallah was briefing the new Minister for Lands, Housing, and Human Settlements Development Mr Jerry Silaa who visited some of NHC projects in Dar es Salaam yesterday. He told the minister that on the residential side, some tenants have already occupied spaces.

In his remarks, Mr Silaa said the demand for NHC houses was high, urging the management to prepare a plan to develop other areas.

“This is my first week in this office since I was appointed, I congratulate the NHC for doing a good job and you should continue to ensure that the housing sector improves more, but we must agree the projects should be completed,” he said.

Mr Silaa directed the NHC management to revive the 711 Kawe Project by October.

The project has stalled for over sisx years. He said with 80 percent of houses already sold at the Samia Housing Scheme Project at Kawe, it was about time that NHC started looking at developing similar projects in other cities other than Dar es Salaam. He was of the view that the Morocco Square project was of great meaning to the economy.

Mr Abdallah said the Morocco Square will generate over Sh850 million per month in rental payments when it becomes fully operational.

He said in the residential area, 40 out of 100 houses have already been sold and the sale was ongoing.
