Lizer, the man behind WCB chat topping hits

He is a school dropout who has made it big from his humble roots in Kigoma, his love for music took him towards a different direction as opposed to many of his peers.

Lizer Classic or Lizer Magic is the man behind Wasafi Records’ chat topping hits , including ‘Jibebe’, ‘Kwangwaru’ and ‘Zilipendwa’.

Iraju Hamisi Mjege, famously known by his stage name Lizer Classic or Lizer Magic, a record producer working under WCB Wasafi recording label founded by Diamond Platnumz.

Lizer began his career 11 years ago, in 2014, Lizer won Producer of the year in Burundi through his production in the music industry.

He found fame for several hits he produced songs for artistes signed up to the label.

Tracks such as Sikomi, Eneka, Hallelujah, Waka, Kijuso, Kwangwaru, Show Me, Tuachane, Zilipendwa, Jibebe, are some of the hits that have made him one of the biggest producers across the region.

Most of the tracks on A Boy from Tandale album by Diamond Platnumz which was released on March 14, 2018 were produced by Lizer. His meteoric rise to fame has this year earned him a producers’ slot at the Coke Studio Africa in Nairobi

How did you receive the news of your enlisting at Coke Studio 2019?

I was elated. I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity. It’s not a small gig therefore I am humbled and very excited because it gives me the opportunity to work and share experiences with other producers from other parts of Africa. This is something that every professional has to look forward to.

You have had quite a successful year, what would you credit that success to?

Putting God first and working extra hard to make sure that whatever I do, I give it my very best. I am happy that my work has been received well across the region. Music Production in this era has become very challenging which means you have to give it your all if you are to remain relevant.

You work with big stars at WCB Wasafi label, how do you handle their different interests and still maintain a level of consistency and originality in your projects?

It’s very hard I must say, we sometimes have issues amongst ourselves within the label. Some accuse me of preferring other acts to them or favoring some but that is the nature of the job. At the end of the day we come together, sort our differences and get the job done.

Who among the artistes at Wasafi do you prefer working with?

I wouldn’t say that I have any preferences, but I work best with Rayvanny. I think it’s because he is the very first artiste I worked with and we connected quite well before the rest of them. He doesn’t disturb me and that makes it very easy to work with.

Are you working on any projects with Kenyan artistes while you’re in Kenya?

Yes I am. I unfortunately can’t speak on them now but I am working on something which will be released very soon
