NBC Bank installs POS machines on Mt Kilimanjaro

Moshi. The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) yesterday announced that it had successfully completed the installation of a payment machine at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro to facilitate payments among tourists.
The bank employees and tourism stakeholders, accompanied by journalists, embarked on the journey last week, seeking to deliver the bank’s Point of Sale (POS) machines to the mountain's peak.
The team returned at the weekend and was received at the Marangu gate.
"For us, as tourism stakeholders, the arrival of this service is a saviour against the challenge of payment services that various stakeholders, especially tour guides, face. Some of them had to follow tourists outside the park just to collect their payments," said Kilimanjaro National Park's (KINAPA) chief conservation officer, Ms Gladys Ngu'umbi.
She congratulated the team on the successful completion of the expedition and commended the bank for using the mountain as a platform to showcase the quality and effectiveness of the POS machine while extending its services to the world-renowned attraction.
"Through this machine, now the payments can be made right there at the summit while celebrating their accomplishment," she said.
The NBC director of business banking, Mr Elvis Ndunguru, said the endeavour serves not only to showcase the features and promote the NBC POS machine but also to support the government's initiatives in boosting domestic and international tourism by promoting the tallest mountain in Africa.
‘’We are not only celebrating our success but also expressing our gratitude to God for keeping us safe and healthy throughout the journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, where the NBC POS machines were installed. We have also witnessed transactions being conducted," he said.
"We are proud to be the pioneers of the first POS machine launch at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Our POS machines have been able to transact at all stations, from Mandara, Horombo, Kibo, Gilmans Point, and Stella to Uhuru Peak.
This assures our customers that our POS machines are sturdy, reliable, and functional at any time, in any environment, and in any weather conditions," he added.
