Oryx, Puma lead battle for market share

Dar es Salaam. Battle for dominance in the petroleum downstream market has continued to intensify as a new report shows that Oryx and Puma lead in market share.

The report released by Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) shows that Oryx Energy leads with 14.6 per cent followed by Puma Energy with 13.7 per cent market share.
GBP and Total came in third and fourth and commanded 12.4 per cent and 8.7 per cent of market share respectively. They were followed by Camel Oil with 7.7 per cent and Oil Com with 5.5 per cent market share.
Between January and December last year, all oil marketing companies imported 3.26 billion litres of petroleum products of which automotive gasoline (AGO) accounted for 1.7 billion litres and 1.16 billion petroleum motor spirit (PMS).
“The authority is continuing to implement a control tool to monitor competition.
“This includes random inspections, quality testing and monitoring of fair competition for market share,” reads the report.
During the period under review, five new oil marketing companies namely M/S Turcan, NSK Oil and Gas, GM &Company, Admire Oil and ALSER Limited entered the Tanzanian market.
