  • Unlike physical SIM cards, eSIMs are embedded directly into compatible devices and can be remotely programmed with network information.

Dar es Salaam. Customers of Tigo Tanzania can now activate a cellular plan without having to use a physical SIM card after the firm launched its digital SIM (Embedded SIM e-SIM).

The new eSIM card seeks to offer advanced and seamless connectivity to the telecom firm’s customers.

Unlike physical SIM cards, eSIMs are embedded directly into compatible devices and can be remotely programmed with network information.

The technology eliminates the need for physical SIM cards and allows users to switch between different networks and devices with ease.

Tigo Tanzania mass segment manager, Mr Eginga Mohammed, said the eSIM empowers customers with connectivity, convenience and security. “With this innovation, individuals with eSIM-enabled smartphones can seamlessly connect to the Tigo network, unlocking a world of advantages, features, and versatility that eSIM technology offers,”

He added that the possibility of having multiple eSIMs on a single device for both personal and business use is now a reality.
