Zanzibar. The 2025 edition of the Trace Awards was a night to remember, especially for Tanzania, as the country played host to the prestigious event on 26th February in Zanzibar.
The awards brought together Africa’s biggest stars to celebrate the continent’s thriving music scene, with Afrobeats, Amapiano and other African genres taking centre stage.
Tanzania’s very own Diamond Platnumz reaffirmed his international appeal by winning the Best Global African Artist award.
Known for blending Bongo Flava with Afrobeats, Amapiano and global pop influences, Diamond has consistently elevated East African music to the world stage.
His win further cements his influence as a cross-border superstar with a massive following across Africa and beyond.
A highlight of the night was Zuchu receiving the Zanzibar Award, recognising her significant impact on Tanzania’s music industry.
The singer-songwriter continues to dominate the East African music scene with her unique voice, heartfelt lyrics, and captivating stage presence, solidifying her status as one of the region’s leading artists.
Another proud moment for Tanzania came when Nandy was crowned Best Tanzanian Artist.
The self-proclaimed ‘African Princess’ has remained a dominant force in the industry, fusing traditional African sounds with modern production.

Beyond Tanzania, the awards recognised artists from across the continent for their outstanding contributions to music.
Song of the Year was awarded to South African duo Titom & Yuppe for their viral hit ‘Tshwala Bam,’ a track that set dance floors alight across the globe.
Nigerian sensation Rema had a successful night, winning Album of the Year for Heis and Best Male Artist, further solidifying his position as a global Afrobeats ambassador.
Best Female Artist went to South Africa’s Tyla, a rising star whose unique sound has captivated audiences worldwide.
The Best Collaboration award was claimed by Ivorians Tam Sir & Team Paiya for their electrifying track ‘Coup du Marteau,’ while Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo was named Best Gospel Artist.
The event also celebrated Africa’s linguistic and cultural diversity with regional awards, including Best East African Artist: Bien (Kenya), Best French-Speaking Artist: Josey (Ivory Coast), Best Portuguese-Speaking Artist: Chelsea Dinorath (Angola), Best Hip Hop Artist: Didi B (Ivory Coast), and Best DJ: DJ Moh Green (Algeria).
