Drake reveals ‘Too Good’ was inspired by Serena Williams

Drake has recently spilled some major tea, revealing that his 2016 hit Too Good, featuring Rihanna, was inspired by none other than tennis legend Serena Williams.

The revelation came in a throwback video released as part of a treasure trove of never-before-seen footage, which the rapper shared with fans on the 100gigs.org website on August 6.

In the candid clip, recorded circa 2016, Drake is seen playing the track for his mother, Sandi Graham, in the studio. As the song plays, he confides in her, saying, "I get heavy on a couple joints, but this is more about me and Serena."

His mom's response, "I gathered that," brings a chuckle from the rapper, who then elaborates on his creative process.

"It's funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them," Drake explains. "So, I know what kind of song...If I'm gonna talk about them, I can at least do them the justice of making a song they like. I know Serena very well and I know that she'll hear it loud and clear. But she'll also not hate me for it because it's light-hearted."

Too Good is one of the standout tracks from Drake's 2016 Views album, a dance-infused number where Drake croons about a relationship that has gone sour.

The lyrics depict the frustration of miscommunication and growing apart, themes that now take on new meaning with the knowledge that the song was penned with Serena in mind.

"Look, I don't know how to talk to you/I don't know how to ask you if you're OK/My friends always feel the need to tell me things/Seems like they're just happier than us these days," Drake raps, painting a picture of a relationship on the rocks.

Initially, many fans speculated that the song was about Rihanna, especially given her feature on the track and her past relationship with Drake.

However, this new revelation adds a layer of depth to the song, offering a glimpse into the complex dynamics between Drake and Serena during their time together.
