With a mix of stand-up comedians and viral online sensations, the comedy scene has never been as dynamic and competitive.
The buzz surrounding this year’s awards is palpable, and one of the most exciting parts is the star-studded presence of none other than President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who will be gracing the ceremony as the guest of honour
It’s not every day that the head of state shows up to witness the humour that keeps the country smiling, and her attendance only adds to the grandeur of this ground-breaking event.
As the digital age continues to shape how we consume content, new-age comedians are stepping up to challenge the traditional forms of comedy.
TikTok stars, YouTube creators, and Instagram comedians have amassed massive followings, and their influence is undeniable.
The competition for top honours has never been fiercer, as these online personalities bring their own unique style to the stage, making this year’s awards especially exciting.
This year’s ceremony promises to showcase an array of awards across various categories.
From Best Comedian Actor of the Year to Best Comedy TV Show of the Year, Best Female and Male Stand-Up Comedian of the Year, and even a People’s Choice award, the competition is fierce. The digital space also gets its due recognition with categories like Best Female and Male Digital Comedian of the Year, as well as Best Comedy Special of the Year.
Heavyweights like Nanga and Joti are up for multiple awards, while Asmah Jamida is making waves with her nominations in the female categories.
The Tanzania Comedy Awards are not just about giving out trophies.
Winners will be walking away with cash prizes, with no less than a million Tanzanian shillings in the bag—talk about a reward for all that hard work!
And let’s not forget the stunning trophies themselves, designed to be as iconic as the comedians who will be receiving them.
According to Omary Nyembo, alias Ommy Dimpoz, the visionary behind these awards, is not holding back.
He has poured his heart and soul into making sure these awards stand out from the rest.
"We’ve made a significant investment in these awards, and the prizes being offered are unlike anything Tanzania has seen before. A lot of awards have been created here, but I’ve noticed that many of them lack the quality that’s needed to make them truly stand out," Ommy Dimpoz shared.
Inspired by his own experience at the 2015 Afrima Awards, he set out to create something that would leave a lasting legacy
"I looked at award shows around the world, from the U.S. to China, and teamed up with a corporate company in Dubai to bring this vision to life," he explained.
From the veterans of the comedy to the fresh faces shaking up the scene, the stage will be set for a legendary night that celebrates the art of laughter in all its forms.
