Arusha to host record-breaking Land Rover parade

  • The northern tourist city is expected to line up more than 1,000 Landrover trucks, bumper-to-bumper, and a motor vehicle train likely to cover 12 kilometres from one end-to-another.

Arusha. Tanzania’s northern city of Arusha is set to break the Guinness World Record for the longest Land Rover parade in October 2024 at an event that is expected to be graced by President Samia.

The northern tourist city is expected to line up more than 1,000 Landrover trucks, bumper-to-bumper, and a motor vehicle train likely to cover 12 kilometres from one end-to-another.

Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC) Paul Makonda, apart from President Hassan, and the retired Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Venance Mabeyo, will be among the participants.

The current world record for the longest snake of land rovers was recorded in 2018, lining a total of 632 trucks that wound their way around the Spa Town of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria, Germany.

The German parade stretched over 7.4 kilometres, but Arusha wanted to beat this by stringing up land-Rovers to over 12 kilometres.

Speaking on the event, RC Makonda said hundreds of Land Rover owners from all over the country have confirmed their participation in the event scheduled for October 12 to October 14.

“Among other reasons, the event aims at boosting tourism in the Arusha Region and the Northern Corridor at large,” he said.

“All Land-Rovers and the Land-Rover family vehicles will participate in the maiden show. Trucks that will be driving into Arusha for the event for the first Land Rover series include 108, 109, 110, Classic Defenders, Modern Defenders, Range-Rovers, Discoveries, Freelanders, and the convertible sports Evoques,” said the regional boss.

The prior record was set in Portugal in 2014, with 516 Land Rovers during which every Land Rover model participated, gathering the 1940s Series I 80” to Range Rover Evoque convertibles.

The parade was organised by Land Rover corporate in Germany, under the supervision of officials from Guinness World Records.

The Landrover event of Germany was held during the annual Abenteuer Allrad exhibition, the largest in the world for cross-country and off-road vehicles.

With Tanzania’s tourism industry relying mostly on four-wheel-Drive vehicles to tackle the bush terrains, Land Rover vehicles are special machines that have kept the ball rolling in national parks before the Japanese marquee, Land-Cruiser took over the landscapes.
