Grand plans for ruined Ihungo

Bukoba. Kagera Regional Commissioner Salum Kijuu has said that the earthquake-devastated Ihungo and Nyakato secondary schools will be rebuilt to the best standard.

Addressing a press conference in Bukoba Municipality at the weekend, Maj General (rtd) Kijuu said the renovation of public infrastructure would take off soon. “Ihungo High School will be built to college or university standards,” he said.

Maj General Kijuu noted that preparation for laying foundation of 24 classrooms and three hostel blocks which will comprise 288 rooms at Ihungo are complete and any time construction would start.

He said the construction of Ihungo and Nyakato secondary schools will take eight months.

The RC said students at both schools were attending lessons at Omumwani Secondary School and Ruhija Evangelical Academy situated in Ibwera Ward, Bukoba Rural District.

Meanwhile, the Kagera Regional Disaster Committee has so far spent Sh1.1 billion out of the donated Sh5.3 billion to repair public infrastructure damaged by earthquake, Maj General Kijuu told reporters in Bukoba Town on Saturday.

He, however, he did not elaborate on the infrastructure that has so far been rebuilt.

He noted that the remaining amount of the donation amounting to Sh4.2 billion would be issued to six district councils as folows: Bukoba Rural District Council will get cash to rebuild 5 dispensaries, 8 primary and 20 secondary schools) while for Karagwe District Council the amount will be released to renovate 3 dispensaries, 1 health centre, 16 primary schools, 7 secondary schools, 1 ward office, Tanzania Intelligence and Security Services officer’s house.
