Dar es Salaam. Services at the infamous Kibaha Maili Moja weighbridge along the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro highway will come to an end tomorrow as the facility is being  closed permanently, it was announced yesterday.

Its functions will be perforrmed at the newly constructed Sh11 billion Vigwaza weighbridge even as it awats awaits official launch in due course, Tanroads Chief Executive Officer Patrick Mfugale has said.

Mr Mfugale said the new facility would enable more vehicles to checked out  within a shorter time, bringing an end to the dreadful queues that had been the bane of transporters.

He told a press conference that all preparations were ready to handle traffic at the new facility designed to capture details of vehicles that are in motion.

“We hope and believe that the facility will reduce scuffles and complaints from passengers and transporters caused by delays at the weighbridge,” he said.

Mr Mfugale advised motorists to follow laid-down procedures at the new facility to avoid a $2,000 (Sh3.6 million) on-the-spot fine.
