Kikwete names new ppra boss

Dar es Salaam. President Jakaya Kikwete has appointed Dr Laurent Shirima the new Managing Director of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).

Dr Shirima’s appointment, according to Chief Secretary Ambassador Ombeni Sefue is with effect from May 2, 2014.

Prior to his appointment, Dr Shirima served as the director of Capacity Building and Advisory Services in the same authority –before serving as the Acting Managing Director of PPRA.

Dr Shirima is taking over the position left by …….. whose tenure at the authority ended in…….

PPRA is an autonomous body endowed with the responsibility of prescribing regulations and procedures for public procurements by Federal Government owned public sector organizations with a view to improve governance, management, transparency, accountability and quality of public procurement of goods, works and services.

It is also responsible for monitoring procurements by public sector agencies or organizations and has been delegated necessary powers under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Ordinance 2002
