Lowassa to be buried on February 17 in Monduli

Dar es Salaam. Former Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa will be laid to rest in his home village of Ngarash in Monduli District on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Lowasa passed away on February 10 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in Dar es Salaam at the age of 70.

He was undergoing treatment, according to Vice President Philip Mpango.

According to the funeral timetable seen by The Citizen, there will be a public viewing of the body at the Karimjee Grounds in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, February 13.

The following day, February 14, a holy requiem mass will be conducted for the departed ex-Premier at the Azania Front cathedral in the city.

On Thursday, February 15, the body will be flown to Arusha, where the residents will have the opportunity to pay last respects to the late Prime Minister at the Sheikh Amri Abeid stadium.

Thereafter, the body will be taken to Monduli, where there will be another public viewing the following day, Friday, February 16.

On Saturday, Lowassa will be laid to rest in a public funeral, attended by government officials and Monduli residents.

According to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, President Samia Suluhu Hassan will also attend the burial ceremony.
