Mususa: Women's Day is an opportunity to advance gender equality
Dar es Salaam. Chairperson of the Mwananchi Communications Limited Board, Mr Leonard Mususa has said that Women’s day is an opportune time to evaluate the agenda of our country's journey towards gender equality in various aspects of life and the economy.
"This year's theme for the commemoration is 'Inspire Inclusion'. I don't think one can talk about inclusiveness when a large percentage of the population does not fully participate in economic activities,” he shared.
Referring to a study conducted in the United States some time in the past that showed a correlation between the level of women in senior management and the success of a company, he further said: “In Tanzania, we have seen changes in recent years. The percentage of women in leadership roles has increased at various levels. For a country to have its first female president, along with eight female ministers, is an achievement. Several companies have also succeeded in this goal.”
He shared TBL as an example for having 58 percent of women in management. "PwC, although it has been a while since I left, my information indicates that they also have a high percentage of women in management," he added.
“This is a significant step towards building an inclusive society that respects gender equality. Every step taken to ensure gender equality brings positive changes to our society," he shared.
“It is important to celebrate these achievements and further encourage women's participation in all areas of life. We see excellent examples of how women's participation contribute to our nation's development,” he said.
He went on to say that it is time to continue working harder to ensure that women have equal opportunities and contribute fully to the development of our nation.
