Dar es Salaam. The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has officially concluded its ‘Shinda Mechi Zako Kinamna Yako’ campaign by awarding the second BMW X1 car prize to Galus Casto, popularly known as “Kweka,” a small-scale trader (‘Mmachinga’) at the Kariakoo Market in Dar es Salaa.

That was after the trader emerged the ultimate winner of the prestigious award.

Initiated in April in the previous year, the campaign sought to foster economic growth among the bank’s customers through savings.

Alongside presenting two BMW X1 cars to the primary winners, it provided customers with opportunities to win a variety of prizes, including cash, mobile phones, laptops, refrigerators, children’s tablets, health insurance, and modern cooking stoves.

The prize handover ceremony was held earlier today at the NBC branch in Kariakoo, led by Joseph Lyuba, the bank’s Head of Finance and Business, along with other bank officials, including branch manager Mohamed Tegalila.

After the award presentation, Mr Lyuba congratulated all the customers who won various prizes in the campaign, particularly Mr Kweka.

He emphasized that the 10-month-long campaign successfully concluded, highlighted by the enthusiastic response from customers who were encouraged to engage in savings.

“Along with presenting various prizes to our customers, including these two cars, the success of this campaign is evidenced by the realization of our primary goal: to motivate Tanzanians to save.

He added:” Through this initiative, we have reached citizens across all age groups and economic backgrounds, which explains why our second car winner is a small-scale trader benefiting from his Malengo account.”

Mr Lyuba revealed that a total of prizes worth 200m/- have been distributed to various winners since the campaign’s inception.

“Over eight different types of prizes were strategically offered through this campaign to assist our customers in achieving their economic objectives. The ‘Shinda Mechi Zako’ theme included business tools and equipment designed to ease their operations,” he added.

Further discussing the campaign, the bank’s Marketing Manager, Ms Alina Kimaryo, noted that it was open to all customers who met the eligibility criteria and were served by the bank through various products, including Chanua, Malengo, Mwalimu, and Johari accounts.

“The conclusion of this campaign signifies the launch of many more initiatives from NBC aimed at supporting the government’s efforts to promote inclusive economic growth through savings within formal financial institutions. I urge my fellow Tanzanians, especially the youth, to seize these opportunities to benefit from their savings goals while also having a chance to win various prizes,” she remarked.

On his part, Mr Mohamed Tegalila, the manager of the NBC Kariakoo branch, noted that the victory of Mr Kweka, is a testament to the bank’s strong presence in the market and its role as a refuge for local traders.

Upon receiving his prize, Mr Kweka, accompanied by his wife, Miriamu Kweka, conveyed his gratitude to the bank and shared that his victory stemmed from his savings via his Malengo account, which he allocated for his children’s school fees, a goal he successfully achieved.

“I am grateful that in addition to being able to pay my children’s school fees through the Malengo account, I have also won a car that will help me reach more customers in the streets. I appreciate that this prize will make it easier for me to ‘Shinda Mechi Zangu,’” Mr Kweka expressed.

His wife echoed these sentiments, encouraging other women in the country to inspire their husbands to save in formal financial institutions.

Confirming the campaign’s integrity, NBC Bank Brand Ambassador Mr Conrad Kennedy, known as ‘Coy Mzungu,’ stated that, in addition to observing various campaign draws, he also witnessed the presence of officials from the Gaming Board of Tanzania, which enhanced the transparency of the winner selection process.
