Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to be the guest of honor at the fourth edition of The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative and Awards Gala.

The event, coordinated by Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) since 2021, will take place at the Super Dome on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm.

President Samia is also expected to participate in a Fireside Chat to talk about her vision for gender equality, and to assess the contribution of the sixth-phase government in empowering women in Tanzania in various fields of leadership.

The Citizen Rising Woman aims to empower and inspire women by highlighting the successes of women leaders across multiple fields in private and public sectors.

The theme for this year's edition is 'Count Her In', which is a call to action for individuals, institutions, businesses and government to consider gender equality, equity and women in every decision they make, at every step of development.

President Samia's trailbazing role as Tanzania's first ever female president epitomizes the ultimate Rising Woman, and serves as an inspiration to millions of young girls in Tanzania and beyond.

Her role in addressing gender inequality within the government through policy changes has been evident since her ascent to power.

Although there is still progress to be made to achieve equality, Tanzania has made tremendous strides in increasing the ratio of women leading key ministries, including strategic dockets such as Defence and National Service, Health,  and Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and a slew of top positions within the public sector.

The Rising Woman event, scheduled on International Women's Day, will feature key figures from the private and public sectors.

Panelists include Marsha Macatta-Yambi, the executive director of the local chapter of the UN Global Compact, Global Compact Network Tanzania; Miranda Naiman, founding partner of Empower; Obinna Anyalebechi, managing director of Serengeti Breweries; and Dr. Anna Makakala, the commissioner general of Tanzania's Immigration. The event will be moderated by Brenda Msangi, CEO of CCBRT.
