Seven killed in Singida, Kilimanjaro road accidents

Hai/Ikungi. Seven people died on Saturday in two different accidents in Hai District, Kilimanjaro, and Ikungi District, Singida.
Five died in Hai when a bus, Kilimanjaro Express, and a car were involved in a head-on collision. Four other people were seriously injured. Reports say the accident occurred when the driver of the bus tried to overtake other vehicles before it collided with the car that was travelling in the opposite direction.
Hai District medical officer in charge Agnes Temba confirmed the deaths.
According to Dr Temba, the bodies are preserved at the hospital waiting for further procedures.
The injured have been sent to Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre.
In Ikungi, a car travelling from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza veered off the road to ram into a Taqwa bus at Kideka Village, according acting Singida Regional Police Commander Isaya Mbughi.
He said the dead were yet to be identified and the bodies were preserved at Puma Mission Hospital.
He said police were investigating the matter. However, preliminary reports show that the driver of the car had fallen asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
“The driver of the driver that was travelling from the opposite direction strove to avoid the car to no avail,’’ he said.
The conductor of the bus sustained injuries on his arm and a seven-year-old child was badly injured.
