Tanzania, Mexico build momentum for partnership

Geneva. Bilateral engagement between Tanzania and Mexico continued this week as Tanzania’s Deputy Permanent Representative in Geneva, Dr Hoyce Temu, met her Mexican counterpart, Ambassador Fernando Olivera.

The two diplomats met on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, during a courtesy call at the Mexican Mission in Geneva.

“Strengthening Tanzania-Mexico relations means identifying practical areas where our priorities converge on global challenges,” said Dr Temu.

The discussions focused on developing a shared framework to support future cooperation, with concepts such as “shared stewardship” and “community-led data” emerging as areas of common interest.

“Courtesy calls do not produce signatures. They build the trust and shared language that make future agreements possible,” added Dr Temu.

In a brief statement issued afterwards, Dr Temu said: “Courtesy visit to the Mexico Mission in Geneva.

We held productive discussions on a range of issues related to bilateral diplomacy with the deputy permanent representative.”

Tanzania and Mexico established diplomatic relations on February 19, 1973.

The relationship was strengthened in the 1970s when founding President Julius Nyerere visited Mexico to seek expertise for planning Tanzania’s new capital city, Dodoma.
