Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Police Force (TPF) has warned political candidates and their supporters to strictly adhere to campaign schedules and legal guidelines in order to avoid conflicts, tensions, and criminal activities.

The caution comes as the country officially opens campaigns for presidential, parliamentary, and councillor candidates on Thursday, August 28, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued yesterday, August 27, Police Spokesperson David Misime stressed that anyone found instigating chaos, disorder, or any form of lawlessness during the election period will face stern legal action.

“The Police assure the public and all stakeholders that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain peace and safety throughout the campaign season and beyond,” reads part of the statement.

The Force also appealed to candidates, their supporters, and the general public to respect law and order, emphasising that safeguarding peace and harmony is a shared responsibility of all Tanzanians.

Mr Misime added: “We remind all political players and citizens in general to comply with laws, regulations, and campaign guidelines to avoid chaos and disturbances.”
