Industry and Trade minister, Dr Selemani Jafo.

Dar es Salaam. The Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, has called on stakeholders in the modern poultry meat production sector to work closely with the Tanzania Agriculture Development Bank (TADB) to access loans and further boost the industry.

This appeal came during his visit to Hill Farm factory in Matimbwa, Bagamoyo, where he highlighted the significant impact of recent investments.

Dr Jafo praised Hill Group for its modern approach to poultry meat production, which he said has transformed the sector and increased the value and demand for local poultry products.

He noted that the factory has not only enhanced the product value chain but also created employment opportunities for over 157 young people.

“I commend the investment made by Hill Group, which represents a major step forward in modern poultry meat production in Tanzania,” said Dr Jafo. “This investment showcases the potential of Tanzanian entrepreneurs and the quality of local products.”

He urged investors to effectively utilize the funds guaranteed by the Agricultural Development Bank and emphasized the importance of supporting local industries.

“We must abandon the habit of favoring imported products over our local ones. Our industries now produce high-quality products that can compete on international stages,” he added.

Dr Jafo also stressed the need for Tanzanians to have confidence in their local industries, noting that sustainable markets are crucial for encouraging continued investment.

“Without markets, investors may be discouraged. Therefore, supporting and valuing local products is essential for the longevity of our industries,” he said.

In his remarks, the Managing Director for TADB, Mr Frank Nyabundege, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for recognizing and supporting investors in the agricultural sector.

He highlighted the bank’s commitment to facilitating growth in this critical area.

The Director of Hill Group companies, Mr Hilary Shoo, thanked the government for its support, including various tax exemptions that have been instrumental in the project’s development.

“I am grateful to Minister Dr Selemani Jafo for being the first minister to visit our facility and for the support we have received from the Agricultural Development Bank since the inception of this idea,” he said.

Mr Shoo highlighted that the Hill Farm factory is capable of producing over 24,000 chickens per day, with varying weights, underscoring the factory’s substantial contribution to the poultry sector.

The visit and statements reflect ongoing efforts by the Tanzanian government to bolster local industries and promote sustainable economic development through supportive policies and investment facilitation.
